Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on la Fête nationale du Québec

June 24, 2023

Ottawa, ON — The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on la Fête nationale du Québec:

“Today, we celebrate La Belle Province!

“Every year, on June 24th, 8.5 million Quebecers come together to celebrate their shared history and heritage. From Montreal to Quebec City through Abitibi to Gaspésie, communities will mark Quebec’s National Day with festivals, neighborhood gatherings, and patriotic songs that reflect the province’s strong spirit and distinct identity.

“As the French heartland of our country and indeed of North America as a whole, the nation of Quebec shines as a hub of unique culture and character. Around the world, Quebec is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, its charming cities and towns, and the richness of the French language, which unites millions of Canadians from one coast to another.

“For over 400 years, Quebecers have played a foundational role in building Canada. Throughout their long history, they have helped shape our country through their passionate dedication to freedom and their undying commitment to preserving their heritage.

“On Quebec’s National Day, we honour Quebec’s history and look forward together toward its future. In 2006, I was proud to be a part of the first government to recognize the Quebecois nation. As Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, I look forward to continuing to work with Quebecers to bring home a brighter future for Quebec and for our common home.

“To all Quebecers celebrating today, happy Fête nationale!”
